Income for the Momella region
p(e)d is involved in the economic autonomy of the farmers (Bwana) and women (Mama) in the Momella region investing in kick-off funding and materials for entrepreneurs with business ideas.
Also the Micro-Finance system is being tested for the region at present.

Mama Momella
Since summer 2007, a group of 25 women from the Momella village have been working on an independent income project. The "Mamas" manufacture traditional modern handicrafts and for the first time ever achieve their own income by selling their products. Design and quality of the products (bed-linen, table-runners etc.) are at a  high level. At the moment they are sold to the surrounding tourism lodges and at local markets. A sales and marketing concept is in place to expand the sale to the whole of the East African Safari Business. The women contribute to the living of the family and capacities could be expanded. The Meru villagers lack investment capital in order to expand their business and to develop new markets. Until the project can support itself (break-even in about two years) kick-off funding is necessary for sewing machines, thread, design, salaries etc.

Bwana Momella
The p(e)d educational project includes the education of the Momella farmers in lasting agrarian culture – in cooperation with the Bill Gates foundation "World Vegetable food Centre" in Arusha.
The p(e)d income-project integrates the pilot project "Bwana Momella". Through Kick-Off Funding and expert instruction the local farmers are put into the position to improve their sources of income and to establish new markets. The main goal is to enable the farmers to improve their situation (including nutrition, knowledge, capabilities) and the quality of their vegetables. By delivering their products to the surrounding markets and tourism facilities the local farmers can gain new income and economic independence.
