Water supply for the Masai population in the Sinya veld, South Amboseli

In the Masai veld Sinya many Masai villages currently don't have any access to drinking water. Water is brought into the villages on foot over very long distances or by so called water donkeys.

There is clean groundwater in approximately 40m depth that could be pumped up through existing (but disused) drilled holes.

p(e)d invests in infrastructure like pumps, generators, pipelines, wind wheels and solar panels to bring water supply to the surrounding villages. Together with our partners p(e)d serves an area, that measures approximately 700 km2 and borders on the ecosystem Amboseli in the north. About 6000 Masai live in the region.

During a trip to the nearby located Kilimanjaro safari camp one can visit the project, talk to the Masai villagers and to the water engineers and collaborate personally.

Tanzania is the main partner country of the German development cooperation of the federal ministry for economic cooperation and development. Germany and Tanzania have drinking water, water-management, sewage as the main focus of their development goals.
